A luxurious yakiniku experience that leans heavily on richness
👍
Time of visit: May 2022
When richness becomes the main character
The meal at Yugentei Shinjuku 游玄亭 新宿 in Shinjuku, Tokyo, focused on high-quality wagyu, with an emphasis on rich, heavily marbled cuts. The meat quality was excellent, and everything was beautifully presented, often decorated with flowers, which added a refined touch.

That said, many of the cuts were extremely fatty, to the point where it started to feel overwhelming midway through the meal. The initial bites were flavorful, but the richness built up quickly. Ordering leaner cuts and prawns later helped balance things out, and those ended up being more enjoyable toward the end. The variety on the menu made it possible to adjust and still have a satisfying overall experience.

A polished space with a slightly distant tone
The atmosphere was a standout. The space felt spacious, colorful, and polished, with a private room setup that made the experience comfortable and relaxed. The restaurant was also clean, and there was no noticeable smoke, which made the meal more pleasant.

Service was acceptable but not particularly warm. Staff were polite, but lacked friendliness, with minimal smiles throughout the interaction.

Prices were high at 37,300 yen, but aligned with the quality of the ingredients. This is best suited for a special occasion rather than casual dining. The restaurant is also open until 3 AM, which is convenient for late-night visits.

Yugentei Shinjuku 游玄亭 新宿 – Review

Summary
A luxurious yakiniku experience that leans heavily on richness 👍
Yugentei Shinjuku offers high-quality wagyu yakiniku in an elegant private setting, with beautifully presented dishes and a wide variety of options. The heavily marbled cuts are extremely rich, which can feel overwhelming over time, though leaner items and seafood help balance the meal. Service is polite but lacks warmth, and while prices are high, it remains a strong choice for special occasions, especially with late-night hours.
