When it comes to a reliable lunch spot, Standing Sushi Bar UOGASHI NIHON-ICHI Ikebukuro East Exit 寿司 魚がし日本一 池袋東口店 in Ikebukuro (Toshima-ku), Tokyo, has become our go-to. The highlight here is definitely the seared sushi, which stands out as the best part of the menu.
The seared conger eel is my personal favorite, with a soft texture that almost melts as you eat it. I also keep ordering the rolled sushi with natto and mashed tuna, usually more than once, because it is consistently satisfying. Overall, the grilled sushi has that melt-in-your-mouth quality that makes it genuinely enjoyable.
Quick bites, quick exits
This is a standing sushi spot, but the fast and efficient service makes it easy to overlook. You order through a tablet menu, which is straightforward and even a bit fun to use.
The whole experience moves quickly, you order, your sushi arrives, you eat, and you leave. It fully leans into a fast-food style of sushi dining, which works well for a casual lunch.
Worth it, but not quite a steal
While the experience is convenient and the food is enjoyable, the prices feel slightly higher than what they deliver. We paid 7,150 yen in total, which does not quite match the overall value. It is still a place we return to often because of the speed and consistency, but in terms of value, it does not feel like a bargain.
