The Best Shoyu Ramen I’ve Ever Had

👍

Time of visit: November 2025

Tokyo has endless ramen options. But Japanese Ramen Gokan 五感 (gokan means “five senses”) is still the best shoyu ramen I’ve ever had. I was genuinely blown away.

A Bowl That Left Me With Lasting Memories

I ordered Tokujo Shoyu Ramen (2,200 yen) with egg topping (200 yen). From the first bite, I went, “Wow!”

The soup had deep umami from chicken and pork fat. It was flavorful, but clean, delicate, and light. Everything felt perfectly balanced. On top were chicken, chashu, and wonton dumplings. The chicken had a smoky flavor from being grilled over charcoal. That smokiness, combined with the fine fat from the broth, created something absolutely amazing.

The noodles were thin and firm. They held their shape. The soup clung to them perfectly. Every bite delivered the same intensity as the first. We kept saying, “It’s so good. It’s amazing.” I drank all the soup without hesitation.

The bowl cost 2,400 yen in total. For that price, the quality felt unreal.

TKG as a Small Luxury

I also ordered TKG (Tamago Kake Gohan; raw egg over rice; 400 yen). I usually don’t eat rice, so this was a treat. The egg was from a special chicken. It tasted rich and pure. There was a piece of moist chicken on top. I added soy sauce.

It was simple. But it was so good.

Calm Space, Serious Food

Reservations are required, and getting one is not easy. But once inside, the system makes sense. The shop is quiet and organized. It never feels crowded. Our seats were secured. The atmosphere was excellent.

The chef was kind and polite; not strict or intimidating. He let the food speak. Service was good overall and efficient.

Ingredient details at Gokan

We noticed a Michelin doll displayed on a shelf inside the restaurant, so apparently it was featured by Michelin.

An English menu is partially available. They do not accept credit cards, so bring cash and make sure you have 1,000 yen bills.

We paid 2,800 yen per person. The value felt incredible for what we experienced.

Summary

The Best Shoyu Ramen I’ve Ever Had 👍
Gokan 五感, a reservation-only ramen shop in Tokyo, served the best shoyu ramen I’ve ever had, with rich umami, smoky charcoal-grilled chicken, and perfectly firm noodles. The TKG was a simple but special treat, made with a high-quality egg. The calm atmosphere, organized system, and overall value made the experience truly memorable.

🤔 Other places to try

For another good place in the area, I recommend No.18 Hamburger No.18ハンバーガー. For another good place for this kind of food in Tokyo, I recommend Unagiya 鰻家.
