A Casual Tempura Gem with Traditional Charm
👍
Time of visit: June 2025
Torii-Kuguri is located in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, and specializes in oden and tempura. I dropped by this restaurant for lunch to try their tempura (I’m not really an oden person).
The place has a warm, traditional Japanese vibe. It’s clean, comfortable, and has a nice relaxed atmosphere that makes you feel welcome right away.

The food was delicious! The tempura, in particular, was super light and crispy—definitely the highlight of the meal. Everything else we ordered was tasty too, but if you’re going, make sure you get the tempura. It’s clearly their specialty.

One thing I appreciated was how fast the food came out after ordering. No long waits, just quick and tasty.
It was fairly priced, too. We paid 7,150 yen for two of us. Not too expensive for the quality and amount of food.

That said, the menu could be a bit more non-Japanese-speaker friendly. The paper menu is only in Japanese, but there’s a QR code on the table that links to an English version online. You can also place your order through that, which is convenient if you don’t speak Japanese.

All in all, I think this place is a great find—good food, fair prices, and a chill atmosphere. If you’re craving some quality tempura without the fuss, this spot is definitely worth checking out.
